Fanta Atkinson, Ph.D., LMHC
Fanta Atkinson, PhD, LMHC is the current Director at the Center for Homicide Bereavement at the Cambridge Health Alliance. Dr. Atkinson provides crisis intervention, consultation, individual, group and family counseling in the aftermath of homicide, street violence, and terrorism.
Dr. Atkinson’s clinical practice has included work with adults, children, adolescents, and groups. She has also had extensive experience providing therapy to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in psychiatric inpatient hospitals, conducting crisis interventions, working in schools, and in forensic settings. Dr. Atkinson also served as a Commonwealth Fellow through the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Atkinson provides clinical supervision to new clinicians, serves as a consultant for various community and private organizations, and conducts numerous trainings and workshops. An important clinical interest of Dr. Atkinson is the intersection of racial/ethnic identity and mental health. Dr. Atkinson also facilitates panels and workshops on the psychological impact of racial and ethnic disparities. Prior to her clinical experience Dr. Atkinson worked in the public health and policy sector. |
