A Future for the World’s Children? A WHO-UNICEF-Lancet Commission

This landmark Commission report, led by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and The Lancet, examines the urgent threats to the health, well-being, and future prospects of children and adolescents worldwide. It finds that despite past progress in reducing child mortality and improving health, global gains are now stalling and at risk due to ecological degradation, climate change, and commercial pressures from unhealthy food, alcohol, and tobacco marketing that harm young people’s development and long-term health. The report emphasizes that no country is currently doing enough to protect children’s health and future sustainability, urging governments to overhaul policies and prioritize children’s rights, environments, and equity to secure a healthier and more equitable future for the next generation.
